According to a source published on the Internet, Attorney-General Alberto Gonzales will not be the President's nominee to replace Associate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court. The Attorney-General was widely believed to be "soft" on issues such as abortion and other issues important to the President's conservative base.
The Hon. Edith H. Jones, a federal appellate judge, is believed to be among the short list of those who may be nominated, according to various sources.
It is your humble correspondent's opinion that General Gonzales should not be nominated for any racial reason, and that a staunch conservative should replace Justice O'Connor. By the same token, there should be no consideration of a nominee's gender. Rather, the conservative merits of each candidate should be determined irrespective of their race or gender.
One thing that conservatives believe in is color-blind selection of candidates. The President should set a good example by choosing wisely.Source of information: Link.
