Four towns in Scotland have laid claims to being the birthplace of Scotty of Star Trek fame.
According to news reports, Linlithgow, Elgin, Aberdeen, and Edinburgh have each taken the honor of being the home town of Montgomery Scott, legendary Chief Engineer of the fictional U.S.S. Enterprise.
A councillor from Linlithgow claims that Scotty was born there and only later moved Aberdeen. He expressed puzzlement over why the other two towns would have any claim to the character, but in fact there are references in Trek lore associating Scotty with both Elgin and Edinburgh.
